Top-rated Cosmetic Dentistry in Port Orchard, WA

Cosmetic dentistry includes dental procedures that improve a person’s teeth and gums, resulting in a better, more noticeable smile. Although the term cosmetic dentistry is commonly referred to as redundant, since general dentistry is aimed at improving the look and feel of a patient’s teeth; the term focuses more of an emphasis on improving the smile and overall appearance of the teeth.

Dentists who practice cosmetic dentistry have extensive experience in techniques that can greatly improve a person’s confidence and give them a new look on life. A smile can be transformed from a no-tooth grin to a full, brilliant, white smile. It is for these reasons that cosmetic dentistry has become more and more popular throughout the United States.

Dental bonding is the process in which tooth-colored resin adheres to a tooth and then cured with a specialized ultraviolet light. Bonding is typically faster and less expensive compared to veneers or crowns, and thus can be a great option for making small improvements to your teeth. Since no impressions need to be taken or sent to a lab, bonding can often be performed in a single office visit. Unlike other cosmetic procedures, however, bonding may not last as long and is more susceptible to stains, so is used more for touch ups compared to major restorations.

How it’s done

Bonding typically requires between a half-hour to an hour to complete per tooth. First, our dentists will determine what shade your teeth are and select a resin that will blend naturally. After this, the doctor will roughen the surface of the tooth and apply a liquid conditioner so that the bonding material adheres easier. The resin will then be placed and cured with ultraviolet light. Finally, the resin will be shaped and polished for a good fit.

Metal-Free Restorations are composite (tooth colored) fillings. They are used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, fractures, etc.

When you develop a cavity or experience other minor tooth damage, our dentist(s) and dental team can provide you with a dental filling to repair the damage and restore your smile. Our dental fillings are made of BPA-free composite material, meaning that they are designed to blend in with your natural tooth color to provide a beautiful, safe, and long-lasting solution for your oral health needs.

Dental veneers are custom-made, thin shells that cover the front surface of your tooth. They are made of tooth-color materials and can be used to improve the appearance of the teeth if they are:

  • Stained or discolored
  • Crooked or misshapen
  • Broken or chipped
  • Or have spaces between them

How it’s done

Two visits are typically required to place the veneer. At the first visit, your teeth will be prepared for the veneer fitting. This may include trimming of a portion of the tooth so the veneer can be bonded on top. Second, impressions will be taken off the teeth to send to the lab so that they can prepare the final veneers. Lastly, temporary veneers will be placed to help protect your teeth between visits.

Upon your return to the office, the temporary veneer (if received) will be removed. The permanent veneers from the lab will be checked first to make sure they fit well and the color is right. Any adjustments that need to be made should and will be addressed, and we will make sure you are satisfied with them before bonding the veneer to your tooth.

As we age, our teeth can shift colors due to the enamel wearing down. This wear allows for dentin, a yellow substance at the core of our teeth, to shine through. This, as well as some dietary habits we may pick up along the way, can give our teeth a yellowish tint. Professional in-office teeth whitening with Port Orchard Dental Care Center can help restore your pearly whites color with the use of dental specified bleach.

Teeth whitening methods

There are two methods of teeth whitening that we currently offer. The first is an in-office teeth whitening procedure which can cause a significant color change in your teeth usually within an hour. This is performed at our Port Orchard dental office by applying a special high-concentrate peroxide gel to the teeth after they have been protected with special shields.

The second method involves the usage of a take-home whitening kit which we can provide you with. These kits include a peroxide gel that is not as strong as what we would use in-office but is stronger than any strips or pastes you would get in stores. We will provide you also with custom fit trays that you wear with the gel for a couple hours a day or overnight for a few days or weeks, depending on our individualized recommendations.
